THE GENITYTE® PROCEDURE

Genityte is a new treatment for several medical conditions that result from pelvic floor relaxation: Leaking urine, Vaginal wall prolapse, Leaking stool.

Genityte uses infrared light; the safety and benefits of infrared light have been established over the past 40+ years.

Made possible through advancements in technology is the safe delivery of broadband infrared light through the skin, targeting the layer of skin responsible for structural support.

Advanced technology combined with advanced treatment protocols have resulted in this very successful new treatment option for dramatic toning of skin, muscle and connective tissue of the pelvic floor.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

Original studies of infrared light and its benefits for healing of chronic wounds date back to the 1970s.

Additional data was collected in the 1980s demonstrating infrared light increasing the replication of fibroblasts (the cells that repair damage in the body) and demonstrating infrared light stimulating collagen synthesis and shrinking collagenous scars.

Also in the 1980s infrared light was shown to be beneficial for healing bowed tendons in racehorses.

In the mid 1990s animal and human studies of infrared light repair of urethral tissue are described in Urology literature.

Most recently, infrared light has been used as a modality for muscle therapy in the field of physical therapy.

Now, Gynecology physicians and women's health professionals have developed an infrared light procedure to tone the skin and muscles of the pelvic floor – restoring the structure and returning the function.

INFRARED LIGHT

Infrared light works through biostimulation which is defined as the use of light to direct the body to repair damaged skin and tissue components.

Infrared light is "natural"- it uses your body's own ability to repair itself through cells called fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are always on alert and will immediately go to work making a scar when skin is lacerated.

Fibroblasts can also be stimulated to go to work repairing damaged skin and tissue without any wound, they can be stimulated to work by gentle infrared light. Fibroblasts produce collagen and elastin, which are structural components of skin, muscle and connective tissue.

FIBROBLASTS REPAIR SKIN, MUSCLE & CONNECTIVE TISSUE

Physiology of the Skin II, Chapte 11, Figure 14.5 by Peter T. Puliese, MD

Damaged collagen fibers in the reticular dermis are repaired and new collagen fibers are synthesized (neocollagenesis) by fibroblasts. Collagen fibers are 20 times more abundant than elastin and give structural support to skin.

Damaged elastin fibers in the papillary dermis are repaired and new elastin fibers are synthesized (neoelastigenesis) by fibroblasts. Elastin fibers are scarce compared to collagen, but powerful and very important, they give stretch-ability to skin.
